Fender Mustang 1965 - Natural

Fender Mustang solid guitar from 1965. Made in the USA.

For sale is what I think is an original bit of history from the glory days of the 60s.  This guitar was made in 1965 during the transition period before Fender sold the company to CBS. and left its golden era behind. 

The neck date stamp is shown in the photos - 8 OCT 65 B.

The 8 denotes the type of guitar the neck was made for, before they changed the numbers in 1966. 

OCT is the month and 65 the year.  B is the width of the neck (aprox. 42mm at the nut).   

The number on the back plate reads L95405 which dates the guitar to 1965. 

I believe the electrics and wiring have not been modified at all.  I certainly have not altered or replaced anything except the strings.

Both Pots stamped 137. 6542 and 70.2125 were made by CTS 1965.

There is plenty of information out there on the internet if you want to check.

However, it is not totally original. The guitar has been previously stripped down to the wood and you can see, when the pickguard is removed, it was originally blue. 

The pearloid 3-ply pickguard is broken at one of the screws and the frets are heavily worn in places as shown in the photos.

There are no issues with the guitar.  The knobs and switches work ok and it comes in a Fender case with stickers from a previous life. 

The wammy bar and the shoulder strap are included.

This guitar will attract players and collectors alike.  If nothing else, it as a good investment - warts and all.
