Up for grabs we have here for sale is a Tokai FSD-65 Five Star in red sparkle fade, made in Japan circa 1985. Here we have the perfect guitar for all those subtle smooth jazz gigs you've been doing... you're welcome! Well, maybe not actually. This could only ever have been made in one decade and in one country:
Japan in the eighties was a wondrous time. The shape is a slightly cooked variation of the Explorer, with a skinnier waist and pointier points and tapered edges. Add to that a red sparkle finish with a matching headstock, a giant ’Ayers Rocker' tremolo bridge and some hectic hot passive humbuckers, you've got a monster of a shred machine.
The neck plays it's part too, it's not a wide/thin shape, it's more of a slim rounded shape, but with tall frets and a flat radius for big bends, as well as some delightfully kitsch lightning bolt inlays... very comfy and quick for all your shred dreams. The tone is monstrous: huge thick bass, heaps of output, rich harmonics... This is an unashamed piece of eighties excess, but it's extremely well executed and a whole lot of fun.
It’s quite easy to tell how loved this guitar was, has lots of bumps around the edges but nothing takes away from its structurally integrity, please see all of my pics for conditon.
Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Trem arm unfortunately missing.
