Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rarer 1940's era 1st gen Electro Voice 635 model with the dual impedance switch which makes for a good general purpose mic and an even better harp mic today. This harder to come by 635 comes with the original Cannon XLR cable adapter in which to operate. This 635 was the more expensive variant of the 630 model mic.

Pic # 2 shows the same looking 630 model from a 1940's era E.V data sheet I have. E.V basically installed the dual Z switch where the on / off switch was and applied the revolutionary XLR connection. That's the only difference.

This model of mic was used by many musicians back in the 50's including Jerry Lee Lewis and Marilyn Monroe while performing live at a U.S.O show in the early 1950's as seen in picture # 3.

The 635 was sold for about 15 years before being discontinued while the 630 was sold well into the late 1970's. The 635 did change it's design just slightly around 1950 but was otherwise the same mic.

It should be noted right away that the element in this mic is in good working condition with good output and if you cup the mic in your hand the signal strength really comes alive. The mic is naturally much stronger in the Hi Z setting than the Low Z setting. These earlier 630 mics just aren't as strong as the later generations which is probably due to the aged materials or transformer. In the Hi Z setting the mic has a grittier tone that is void of bass so it's good for HAM radio operation and even better as a harp mic. Actually one of the best harp mics a musician could possibly use.

There is just lite cosmetic wear on the polished chrome housing. No dents or fractures.   There are Just a few scuff marks and smaller scratches on the exterior of this polished chrome mic. The chrome still has a beautiful luster and the look of the mic was a classic style emulating the design of the jet turbine engines being used by American and Soviet fighter planes of the day. The threads for the stand are perfect with zero stripping. The E.V badge looks beautiful and completely legible. Overall this piece is an easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension.

This 635 model mic will take any standard XLR cable to operate. I cleaned the XLR pins on the mic to ensure a perfect signal once a cable is inserted.

This mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

This will make a nice display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office even if you choose not to actually use it. Great for any vintage mic collection.
