This guitar is a Limited Edition Reproduction of Johnny Winter's original Firebird V paying tribute to one of the most talented and badass slide and blues guitarists to ever grace a stage. For years, Johnny relied on just one guitar - his 1963 Gibson Firebird V. This was one of Tom Murphy's early relics he did for Gibson. You can tell it was based on a guitar that had seen lots of late night jams and action in blues clubs as well as auditoriums and festivals and I am sure every mark has a story. They even recreated the broken neck when one of his roadies knocked over a Marshal stack and broke it and Gibson repaired it. It plays just like Custom Shop guitar and sounds amazing. Originally there were only 75 of these made and this is #75. But, I have since seen higher numbers so this was popular enough that Gibson produced more which I have seen Gibson do with several celebrity relic guitars. So this would be the last of the original batch. It comes with the COA and case candy in the photo. See specs below. Also, I have included a poster i purchased from the Texas Blues Museum of Johnny's early career when he was Johnny "Cool Daddy" Winter. Also, the original poster of the first Johnny concert I saw in Fort Worth Texas in 1970.
Mythology: Johnny Winter was an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer from who with his brother Edgar(who had his own amazing solo career) came out of Beaumont, Texas through Austin to be one of the most notable blues players from the late 1960's until his death in 2014. He was mentored by one of the blues godfathers Muddy Waters who was a blues legend. Johnny came to the attention of Columbia Records in 1968 who paid him $600,000 (the most ever played a rock musician at the time) to record his 2nd album Second Winter which had a huge impact on blues rock at the time. While touring in the 1960's he was in middle America and came across the Gibson Firebird V and fell in love with the guitar. I have seen other Custom Shop recreations, Clapton's Blackie and Stevie Ray Vaughn's #1 etc.., but none have come close to this guitar.
