This is a nearly 100-year-old medium bore (in fact smaller than modern medium bore: keeping reading for details), low pitch trombone by the H. N. White company of Cleveland, from its King line of that era. It's a "Demonstrator", that is, an instrument used as a showpiece by traveling H. N. White salesmen. About 46.5" long in the assembled position, slide retracted. The bell diameter is about 7". It's important to note that this pre-war design's bore size is smaller than what would be considered "medium bore" today, being less than 0.5". It features considerable engraving, and, indicating its age, lacks the slide lock hardware that appears on later trombones. The finish is a little worn, but overall it seems to be in well-kept shape. Our regular servicer declined to work on it, noting that "it's as good as it's going to get". The case is original, however, it is in incredibly rough condition: the lining is wearing off and the main latch will not close reliably (so handle the case with great care, lest it pop open). The serial number on both the slide and horn segments is 87349, indicating it was built after 1925 and before 1930. Includes an H. N. White Equa-Tru #28 mouthpiece. It also has part of a lyre for sheet music, but just the rod, no sheet clip.
