This Custom 22 with a Piezo (P22) is finished in a gorgeous Dark Cherry Burst. It is excellent condition with the exception of a very small ding on the headstock which I tried to show in the second to last photo (just above the "10"). It is in the clear coat and not much deeper as far as I can tell. Happy to send more photos or answer any questions you have. I have tried to take very good care of this instrument. It has never been anywhere near smoke and kept in a humidity controlled case when not being played.
The PRS P22 is a landmark instrument in the Paul Reed Smith lineup, notable for being the company's first solid-body electric guitar to feature a built-in piezo pickup system. Introduced in 2012, it was designed to give gigging guitarists the ability to switch between authentic acoustic tones and classic electric humbucker sounds without swapping instruments.
Core Features and Specifications
- Body Construction: Solid mahogany back with a carved, figured maple top.
- Neck & Frets: 25" scale mahogany neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard (typically available in Pattern or Pattern Regular neck carves).
- Magnetic Pickups: Originally equipped with PRS 53/10 pickups, and later models updated with TCI-tuned 85/15 or 58/15 LT pickups.
- Bridge Options: Available with either a PRS stoptail or a PRS tremolo, uniquely modified to house piezo saddles. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
The Piezo SystemThe P22 uses a redesigned, miniaturized PRS/LR Baggs piezo system. The board is 60% smaller than previous PRS hollowbody piezo systems, allowing it to fit into a thinner solid-body footprint without sacrificing acoustic authenticity. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]Electronics and OutputsThe P22 features an incredibly versatile control layout, granting you access to different routing and blending options: [1]
- 3-Way Mini-Toggle: Selects between pure magnetic pickups, pure piezo (acoustic), or a blend of both.
- Dual Output Jacks: You can use the standard jack to send all signals to one amp (using the blend knob). Alternatively, use the discrete output jacks to send the magnetic signal to your electric amp and the piezo signal directly to an acoustic amp or PA board.
- Power: The piezo system requires a 9-volt battery, which is easily accessible in a compartment on the backplate
The guitar acts as an "all-in-one" workhorse. You can use the 5-way pickup selector to get classic electric sounds (like single-coil splits and full humbuckers), and then flip the toggle to the acoustic mode for rich, resonant strumming. You can even layer the two sounds together for a massive, multi-dimensional live tone.
