This listing is for one 1969 microphone preamplifier by Automated Processes Inc. (API) featuring the classic 2520 discrete amplifier driving two medium-power transistors (2N2102 and 2N4036).
I have received many inquiries regarding the origin of these preamplifiers, so here are the details:
- In 1969, RCA (Radio Corporation of America) ordered three custom 24-input / 16-bus recording consoles from Automated Processes Inc. (API) Studio Systems Division for their studios in Hollywood, Nashville, and New York.
- All three consoles were commissioned in 1970.
- Many great hits were recorded on these API consoles between 1970 and 1989.
- RCA decommissioned the API console from their New York studio in 1989.
- We acquired the entire contents of that studio, including the console.
These modules are original API preamps manufactured in 1969 and removed from the RCA New York console.
We are including gold plated 18 pin edge connector (3 pins are blocked – the
modules requires 15 pins only) for easy wiring.
The wiring schematic (attached) identifies the pin out.
