1998 Wes Montgomery L5
Cherry Red
The Gibson L-5 Wes Montgomery with serial number 90583008 is a masterfully crafted jazz archtop guitar built on February 27, 1998, at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee. It represents the 8th instrument stamped on the 58th day of that year under Gibson’s 8-digit system.
The Wes Montgomery signature model is built as a true, high-carve "Jazzbox" to maximize rich, acoustic resonance, it has minimal play time and has been remarkably kept. The build and quality are next level,
- Top: Solid carved Sitka Spruce.
- Back & Sides: Solid figured Flame Maple.
- Neck: 5-piece premium Maple and Walnut laminate with an elegant "stinger" finish on the back of the headstock.
- Fingerboard: Solid Ebony accented with Mother-of-Pearl block inlays.
- Hardware & Electronics: A single '57 Classic Humbucker mounted directly into the neck position, gold hardware, an adjustable ebony bridge, and a translucent tortoise-style pickguard.
The "One-Pickup" Magic: Standard L-5 CES models feature two pickups. Wes requested a single neck pickup because he famously only played with his thumb. Removing the bridge pickup and extra control knobs left a massive area of the carved spruce top undisturbed. This allows the wood to vibrate much more freely, giving the guitar a darker, purer, and highly acoustic jazz tone. This Wes Montgomery is one of a kind hand picked special order custom
