Up for sale is a late-1960s Martin 0-16NY, one of Martin’s “New Yorker” folk-era guitars. These were Martin’s early take on a vintage reissue — built during the 1960s folk boom to echo the small-bodied, 12-fret 1920s instruments made famous by Joan Baez and her contemporaries. Lightly built with a stripped-down, Style 18 aesthetic, they have a dry, woody, direct voice that sits beautifully behind a singer or fingerstyle player.
I had a K&K Pure Mini pickup professionally installed — a passive, no-battery bridge-plate transducer that’s widely regarded as the most natural-sounding passive system for amplifying a small-body acoustic. Plug straight in and the guitar’s real acoustic character comes through. It also includes the vintage green Martin hardshell case.
Specs:
• 0-size body, 12-fret neck-to-body joint, slotted headstock
• Solid spruce top; solid mahogany back, sides, and neck
• Rosewood fingerboard and bridge
• 1-7/8” nut width — roomy, comfortable for fingerstyle
• ~24.9” scale length
• No pickguard, side-dot markers, Style 18 appointments
• Lightly X-braced; sounds best with silk & steel or light-gauge strings
• K&K Pure Mini pickup (passive) installed
• Includes vintage green Martin hardshell case
