"The distinct reverse-scroll design for Regal mandolins was patented by Regal's president, Frank Kordick, in 1914." The Regal reverse scroll mandolin is a quirky, iconic vintage instrument produced by the Regal Musical Instrument Company of Chicago primarily during the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. its defining characteristic is a headstock or upper body scroll that curls in the opposite direction of standard Gibson F-style mandolins. There is no label and the pick guard is long gone. This particular model is a 2 point, good working tuners, fingerboard is either ebony or ebonized. Plays perfectly and intonation is great. Portuguese compensated bridge made from boxwood. The original bridge was pretty worthless and the compensation dialed in the intonation well. While these run the gamut from pretty cheesy to really good, I'd put this one somewhere in the middle. Wood is likely birch or other Illinois area indigenous wood. It's not plywood. Bound top and bottom. False herringbone. On close inspection it's maple with finely painted black lines. Someone bumped the tail end and some point, with an area of binding removed and a crack running into the top. It's stable and has been that way for several years I have owned the instrument. Original Bell brand tailpiece. The construction is basically like a pancake with no opening into the scroll. Sound is kind of country blues funky, plunky. Includes a soft gig bag. Unless it's a really bad situation I won't accept returns. I'm downsizing and moving them out. Please examine the photos carefully.
