Pair of Neumann V476B Microphone Preamplifiers with Power Supply mounted in rack

For sale is a very cool Stereo pair of Neumann V476 B mic preamps in a single space rack with power supply and phantom power.Fully tested. All original with the exception of 3 power supply capacitors that are prone to failure have been replaced on each module. No capacitors have been changed in the signal path. One knob is missing some plastic but still functions. Replacements are available from Sifam or Elma.

History:

A real Neumann classic - developed in the 70's and built into the 90's. The V476 is the direct successor of the PMV70 and was build 100% discrete. Today the V476b is one of the most sought after mic preamps in the danner cassette format.

Design :

The Neumann V476 was build 100% discrete with transistors. It has nice and huge Haufe transformers in the in- and outputs of the audio signal path. They are part of the reason why this amp sounds so good. The whole design is very high quality and the specs correspond to the request of the "ARD-Pflichtenheft" and the IRT.

Sound:

Besides it´s great specs with low noise and thd, the V476 adds a little coloration to the signal. Not too much, but it definatly adds character. The V476b gives the signal a nice overall smoothness, and it tightens up low-end frequencies without too much coloration. We are  very impressed by the tone of this little mic preamp. Like the other vintage german broadcast amps of this era (Lawo V976, ANT Telefunken V676 and V672, TBG 601e, etc.) they are in no way inferior to a vintage Neve, API or SSL preamp. But (still) much cheaper. 76 dB is more than enough gain. Even for the most sensitive ribbon mics.
