Roland MKB-200 61-Key MIDI Keyboard Controller

Refurbished April 2026.

Internal components are dated 1987 and 1988.

Servicing:

• replaced damper felts
• replaced key positioning glue-strips
• replaced one broken key
• replaced one failed LED
• verified keyboard diodes
• verified electrical continuity throughout
• fuse checked
• cleaned contact strips
• thoroughly cleaned inside and out

A note about servicing... Rolands from this time period did not have dirt seals in most areas. So no matter what the outside looks like, it will need a complete internal cleaning. The years of accumulated dust gets between the key triggers and the contact strips, causing the notes to partially sound, or not play at all. Repair sites may advise replacing the contact strip, but generally this is not necessary: just clean them!

Condition:

Overall it is in EXCELLENT condition.

Some of the keys have slight yellowing due to sun exposure.

There are minor areas (1/4" to 1/2") of surface corrosion, not generally visible. The corrosion is caused in part from being used in humid conditions, and in part from Roland's thin enamel on non-stainless steel.

I do not have a memory card to test that feature. Internally, the card uses an independent CF-card circuit, which appears to be in good condition.

All other features are tested and function as expected. MIDI signal is correct from all three MIDI outs, and the foot pedals inputs perform the correct functions (foot pedals not included, sorry!).

This is the setup used in the video:

• Roland MKB-200
• 5-pin MIDI cable from Roland
• M-Audio M-Track (5-pin MIDI to USB converter)
• USB cable to laptop
• Ubuntu linux with jack, fluidsynth, and qpwgraph installed.
• MIDI signal converted to audio by running:
• fluidsynth --server --audio-driver=jack -g 1.0 /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2
• Running qpwgraph to make sure MIDI input goes from fluidsynth to the speakers.
