Bought this last year - been kept in a humid controlled room, in its case. Page 116 of the Beauty of the Burts was always my favorite. Just not a Les Paul guy, and this guitar needs to be played! Will include a copy of the “The Beauty of the ’Burst: Gibson Sunburst Les Pauls from ’58 to ’60”
“Yasuhiko Iwanade’s book The Beauty of the ’Burst: Gibson Sunburst Les Pauls from ’58 to ’60 is an essential resource for any guitarist remotely interested in Gibson’s historic vintage Les Paul “'Burst” guitars. Featuring a foreword from Ted McCarty, the book exhaustively catalogs those endlessly mythologized instruments with beautiful full-color photos. This Dealer Select 1959 Les Paul Standard is inspired by one of the most stunning examples in Yasuhiko’s book, right down to the hand-selected AAA maple top and the road-worn Heavy Aged finish.
Murphy Lab magic: finely aged and ready to play
Considering the rarity and age of the original midcentury Les Paul Standard guitars, a sizable portion are bound to have the signs of a well-loved and often-played instrument, but the fine-wine effect of time is a premium that many seek in their desires to wield a piece of 6-string history. Thanks to the state-of-the-art aging technologies of Gibson’s Murphy Lab, this Dealer Select 1959 Les Paul Standard is teeming with time-worn wonder. Its Heavy Aged, nitrocellulose lacquer finish has been methodically treated to the Murphy Lab’s time-bending magic, emerging with all the perfectly imperfect details that you love to see and feel on a half-century-old axe.
Custombucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone
Gibson Custom paid just as much attention to the Dealer Select 1959 Les Paul Standard’s electronics as they did to its aesthetics. Beginning with vintage CTS potentiometers and bumblebee capacitors, every part of its internal signal path was designed to give you absolutely dead-on 1959 Les Paul tone. Of course, it’s next to impossible to find genuine ’50s PAFs (even for Gibson). Instead, this 1959 Les Paul Standard sports a pair of Gibson’s Custombucker humbuckers. The Custombucker is the most historically accurate PAF copy ever. You just won’t find another Les Paul that comes this close to the original look, sound, and feel of a 1959 Les Paul.
