This 1989 First Year of Set Neck Construction Epiphone Les Paul Custom may have been a prototype made in USA example as it features a faint "Ink Stamped" Serial Number and Made in USA under the clear coat. It also appears to be a nitro finish and sports a mahogany body with a mahogany top, and a set mahogany neck with a long tenon. It is equipped with the original humbucker at the neck and an unoriginal DiMarzio (model unknown) at the bridge. The two pickups are wired as "Out of Phase" when in the middle position for that iconic "Peter Green" honk when both are on. Other Pro Player Type mods include upgraded Sperzel locking tuners and a roller nut. It plays great with low action and the frets are in nice shape with light wear. The overall condition is very good with some buckle rash, small chips, and scuffs.
- These 1989 Epiphones were built in Korea, however, this particular guitar has "Made in USA" imprinted under the serial number (both are under the finish) on the back of the headstock. We've never seen this before; all other examples have a white sticker with the serial number, so it is certainly unique!
