Made in Chicago in 1937, this pre-war Harmony parlor acoustic guitar is a beautiful piece of American musical history. Built during the golden era of Chicago instrument manufacturing, this parlor-sized acoustic features the rare, authentic internal "S-37" ink stamp, confirming it left the Harmony factory in the Spring of 1937. The guitar features a chunky V-shaped neck profile that fills out the palm and provides great leverage for chords and traditional thumb-over blues playing. Due to its age, the guitar currently has high action, making it an absolute dream for Delta blues bottleneck slide playing. This elevated string clearance allows you to dig in aggressively with a slide in open tunings without any fret buzz, unlocking a raw, percussive "vintage bark" and a singing, vocal-like sustain. While the neck could use a traditional neck reset to bring the strings down, it remains perfectly playable as-is with the current high action. Cosmetically, the instrument is in great overall vintage shape, showing a beautiful patina with some minor scratches, scuffs, small dents around the body, and minor fret wear apparent on the fingerboard that all add to its authentic pre-war character. There is also a small hairline crack forming along the seam between the back panel and the sides near the upper portion of the body, but the guitar still remains structurally sound and stable (See photos provided). This guitar has been professionally set up with new strings and weighs in at a featherweight 2 pounds, 15 ounces.
