The Electro-Harmonix Germanium Overdrive is a distinctive guitar pedal known for its warm, 1960s vintage fuzz-like tones. It uses a single NKT275 germanium transistor and highly interactive controls that set it apart from standard overdrives.
Gain: Regulates the amount of input signal driving the germanium transistor.
Bias: Adjusts the current gain of the transistor. Tweaking this lets you dial in everything from a smooth, edge-of-breakup tone to a heavily gated, spitting fuzz sound.
Volts: Controls the voltage applied to the pedal (from 9V down to 3V). Lowering the voltage emulates the sound of a dying battery, creating a unique, squishy sag and compression.
Because the Bias and Volts controls interact directly with one another, adjusting them together unlocks a massive range of unique, gritty textures.
