For sale is a fantastic left-handed 1973 Gibson SG Standard, in very good condition and perfect working order. It has just received a pro setup with 10–46 gauge strings, giving it excellent playability with a straight neck, low action, and spot-on intonation. The original pair of T-top pickups sound outstanding.
Cosmetics: This guitar has been well cared for and is very clean overall. As expected for a vintage instrument, it shows some honest wear, including small dings, chips, light scratches, and typical finish swirling. The original frets are in great shape with plenty of life left. True to the era, the fret wire is the low/wide style. Please see photos for condition, and note that some reflections may be visible in the images.
Modifications & Features:
-Originally a custom order in 1973, this SG was requested with right-handed stringing and the pots/electronics flipped accordingly.
-It left the factory with a Gibson-branded Bigsby vibrato, which was later removed in favor of a standard stop tailpiece. This left two small holes behind the current tailpiece. The stop tailpiece itself was installed slightly off-center; fortunately, this is purely cosmetic and does not affect playability or intonation.
-New wiring harness has been installed along with new knobs, a new switch tip, and different strap buttons.
-The original harmonica-style bridge has been replaced with an ABR-1 style bridge.
-Left-handed nut was also fitted (appears to be shimmed), and the string height/clearance at the nut is excellent.
The sale includes the original wiring harness, knobs, and the right-handed nut, all in working order. The original bridge and vibrato tailpiece are no longer with the guitar. Comes with the original hard shell case.
Specs:
-Weight: 7 lbs 0.6 oz
-Nut width: 1.585“
-Neck thickness: .780” (1st fret), .935” (12th fret)
-Neck pickup: 7.44K
-Bridge pickup: 7.59K
This is a killer SG with incredible playability and tone, freshly set up and ready for its next owner!
