The Akai PRO-1000 open-reel tape machine was introduced in 1977 and was produced until 1982.

It was Akai's only major attempt at a high-end, semi-professional 1/4-inch reel-to-reel tape deck. Because it carried a massive price tag at the time and was distributed in limited quantities (primarily across Japan, the United States, and Canada), it is considered quite rare today.

Key Specs of the PRO-1000:

Design: A heavy-duty, two-piece system separating the tape transport mechanism from the amplifier section.

Tape Speeds: Capable of running at 3¾, 7½, and high-speed 15 IPS (inches per second).

Heads: Outfitted with Akai’s famous wear-resistant GX (Glass and Crystal Ferrite) tape heads.

This piece of gear has barely been used by me. It’s in great condition and runs the way it should. I’ll ship it in the same box it was shipped to me in from previous owner. Happy to throw in the tape I have with it.
