Conn Panamerican 32K 1950s-60s - Metallic Red Lacquer with Deluxe Engraving

Vintage Conn/Pan American Model 32K BBb sousaphone made in elkhart. Decorated in a striking metallic red lacquer with elaborate gold floral engraving throughout the bell, neck, body, and bows. The Pan American 32K is the mid 20th century sibling to the Conn 14K with same fundamental design and Elkhart pedigree just at a more accessible price point.

I bought this for a gig that didn’t pan out so it’s only left the house a handful of times. Most notably, I played it on the recently released Cuco Cumbia records. Otherwise it’s mostly been sitting and looking beautiful.

Valves work, full sound, plays!! Would be at home in a mariachi group, second line, marching band, theater pit, brass band, or as a stage centerpiece.

Condition:

Lacquer wear and small dings throughout most visible where the body meets the bell ring and around the valve cluster.

The neck joint currently has tape wrapped around it because a brace came unsoldered. The brace just needs a proper resolder from a tech to hold it in place without tape.

Engraving is largely intact and stunning. I bought the horn this way and assume it was done aftermarket.

This is a player grade vintage horn sold as is. A trip to a brass tech would tighten it up and get it to maximum potential, but it’s gig ready now.
