Manufactured during the 23rd week of 1977 (early June 1977), this vintage MXR Distortion + represents an important era in the company's history, produced shortly after the transition from the highly sought-after script logo to the classic block logo design.

The Distortion + helped define the sound of late-'70s and early-'80s rock by delivering a raw, dynamic overdrive and distortion character that remains highly regarded today. Its simple circuit design utilizes a single op-amp paired with germanium clipping diodes, producing a touch-sensitive distortion that retains clarity while adding grit, sustain, and harmonic richness.

Unlike many modern high-gain pedals, the Distortion + excels at everything from mild breakup and boosted lead tones to classic crunchy rock distortion. Its straightforward two-knob layout makes dialing in great sounds effortless.

Condition

Fully functional and sounds excellent. Cosmetic wear is consistent with nearly 50 years of use, including significant logo wear, paint chips around the enclosure, and a partially cracked Distortion knob. These cosmetic issues do not affect the operation. A great-playing vintage example with plenty of character and the classic Distortion + tone that made this pedal a legend.
