SolidGoldFX EM-III Multi-Head Octave Echo – Delay, but with little time-travelling imps 🕰️🎸🛸
Introducing the SolidGoldFX EM-III: a delay pedal for people who find a normal echo a bit too sensible. This thing doesn’t just repeat your signal obediently like a polite parrot. No. It breaks time down into tiny slices, scatters octaves across them, and then pretends your pedalboard is suddenly a faulty recording studio on a spaceship. 👽✨
The EM-III is a multi-head tape-style echo with octave function, modulation, tap tempo, warp and glitch. So, roughly speaking: vintage echo meets boutique delay meets “who just summoned the tape ghost?” SolidGoldFX describes it as an evolution of the Electroman delay line, with warm analogue-style echoes, modern clear delays and experimental octave/glitch sounds.
Features that allow for a great deal of mischief:
🎛️ Time, Repeats, Level
The holy trinity of delay. From short slapback to long echo clouds hovering somewhere between song and weather phenomenon.
⏱️ 70 to 1000 ms delay time with tap tempo
So you can stay nicely in time – or pretend to, until the pedal starts coming up with ideas of its own.
🧠 Multi-Head Tape Delay
Selectable 1-, 2- or 3-head delay structures. This produces rhythmic repeats, dancing echo patterns and that ‘old tape machine, but with a space licence’ character.
🕳️ Octave Echo
The first delay track can be lowered by an octave. This suddenly gives your echo weight, shadow and a little dark hood. Perfect for gloomy ambient pads, massive leads or riffs that sound as if they’re coming from the hold of a submarine.
🌊 Flutter control
In the middle: no modulation. To the left: slow, dreamy chorus-like movement. To the right: faster vibrato wobble. This turns a normal echo into a slightly seasick sonic beast.
🎨 Color control
In the middle, the delay remains clear and full. To the left, the highs are cut: warm, dark, analogue-muddy. To the right, the bass is thinned out: bright, thin, lo-fi, tape-like, a bit like a “broken radio on a lunar base”.
🧨 Warp function
Hold down Tap and the repeats build up to self-oscillation. This is no longer an echo; it’s a rolling sonic tsunami with a boutique label.
📼 Glitch function
Hold down Bypass and it sounds as if a tape machine is dictating its last will and testament: motor broken, tape snapping, reality briefly offended. Both footswitches together? Then it becomes a little noise séance for advanced users.
Applications, from lovely to “please not whilst doing your tax return”:
🏄 Crystalline Slapback
Short delay time, few repeats, perhaps 2 or 3 heads: perfect for rockabilly, surf, indie and anything that needs to sound like a clean echo with a touch of magic dust.
🌌 Ambient textures with depth
Octave on, repeats up, flutter added, reverb behind: suddenly a single note sounds like a melancholic whale swimming through a cathedral.
🦾 Modern post-rock and shoegaze walls
Slow modulation, lots of repeats, warp as a dramatic transition: ideal for sections where no one knows any more whether a song is still playing or a natural phenomenon has begun.
👾 Glitch transitions and song endings
Instead of fading out boringly: hold the footswitch, let the delay crumble, everyone looks confused, you nod knowingly. Very professional. Very suspicious.
🎸 Solos with a shadow copy
A bit of octave echo under the leads and suddenly it sounds as though your solo is being pursued by a lower-tuned parallel version with sinister intentions.
🧪 Synths, drum machines, loops
Not just guitar: the EM-III can also transform synth lines, samples or drum loops into fluttering, rhythmic, broken echo sculptures. A ‘beat’ becomes an ‘archaeological find from the future’.

A delay that doesn’t just repeat what you play, but puts it in a little time machine, gives it a quick shake and spits it back out with an octave twist. 🧔♂️🕰️🎶
