Today, for your consideration - a Musitronics Mutron III! This is a fabulous example that has been serviced and tastefully modified by our good friend Pete of Pete’s Pedals. The optocoupler was rejoined with fresh shrink wrap to ensure a perfect seal. Some electrolytic caps were replaced for lower noise. A Retrolinear socket was installed for use with modern 9v power supplies (anything over 250mA will do). A nice modification was added where the limiting resistance can be adjusted externally (see the extra knob in the top right corner). When these pedals were first manufactured, limiting resistance was calculated for each pedal and a resistor value was chosen to ensure they fell into an audible range of quacking. Some folks modify them for a trim pot internally to find the sweet spot, but this one has it on the outside so that you can dial the resistance perfectly every time. This is especially useful when using different types of pickup layouts as we’ve noticed it can get different results with both humbucker and single coil equipped guitars. This one is a player’s dream! Get yourself a fantastic stage ready and rig friendly vintage Mutron.
