Ryan Malisci and Hot Mulligan are proof positive that hooky, guitar-driven emo pop is still alive and well. The Reverend Ryan Malicsi Signature is based on the original Jetstream 390, with a few special touches including gold hardware, a reverse headstock, and expanded pickup switching. And with the release of Reverend’s hum-canceling Steel Head P90s, it’s also one of the only ways to get Reverend’s conventional 9A5 P90 pickups in a 2026 model.
Three P90s is still a pretty uncommon setup, and Reverend has been doing it for years, going back to its USA-built days. The Jetstream 390 delivers clean, punchy tones with plenty of muscle for rock and blues. Positions 2 and 4 give you that Strat-style quack, just fatter and with less volume drop. The neck and middle pickups stay clear and lively, while the hotter bridge adds extra push without getting harsh. With some drive, this thing absolutely rips, which is exactly what Hot Mulligan needs for its high-energy emo pop.
Reverend’s Bass Contour control adds a lot of range. It’s basically a high-pass filter, but it works really well—smooth, musical, and useful for tightening the low end or getting brighter, spankier sounds from the neck and neck/middle settings. The Malicsi signature also features a push-pull tone control for accessing the neck-and-bridge combo—or even all three pickups—for jangly rhythm tones or some country-style picking.
The 6-bolt roasted maple neck has 22 neatly finished frets, locking tuners, and a triple string tree—something all Fender-style headstocks should have. We measured the neck at around .830" at the 1st fret and .880" at the 12th. It’s very much in slim C territory and will feel familiar to USA Fender players. The Wilkinson 2-point tremolo is smooth and stable, with stainless posts and brass anchors for solid tuning and sustain.
If you’ve been wanting a great P90 guitar, the Ryan Malicsi Signature is basically a Swiss Army knife of tone, with killer looks and legendary Reverend build quality.
