Custom Modified Arbor Press Converted for Guitar Fret Installation / Luthier Work
This is a custom-converted arbor press configured for guitar and bass fret installation work. The press began as a cast-iron arbor press and was modified into a fret press system inspired by similar luthier conversion setups used by independent builders and repair technicians.
The press includes:
- modified arbor press frame
- extended leverage handle
- custom fret-press ram assembly
- radiused fret caul installed
- textured black industrial finish
The unit was built as part of my own instrument-building and modification work. The intention was to create a stable and affordable fret pressing platform without purchasing a high-end commercial luthier press system.
The press operates correctly and the ram mechanism functions smoothly. However, I ultimately decided that fretwork was not an area of luthiery I personally wanted to continue pursuing, so the tool saw very limited use.
This would make a good fit for:

The overall aesthetic has a heavy industrial/mechanical character and the press has significantly more mass and rigidity than many lightweight hobby solutions.
