Offered here is a really nice Vintage Bundy Baritone Saxophone mouthpiece refaced by Tommy Occhiuto to a .112 (Meyer 8, or Otto Link 7). Tommy O's work as usual is top notch. Tommy set this mouthpiece up with a Meyer facing. He mentioned that he played this mouthpiece at a rehearsal and it played really well!
A lot of older Bundy's are hidden gems. The older ones, (like this one,) were often blanks from JJ Babbitt renamed with the G. Bundy or Selmer or Meyer, etc. name. These are from the period of excellent rubber compound.
Here' some info I found online:
- Babbitt Production: JJ Babbitt produced hard rubber (ebonite) mouthpiece blanks for various brands, including Selmer (Bundy).
- Quality Material: These vintage hard rubber blanks are noted for being high-quality, often called "fabulous old sulphurous Hard Rubber".
- "Stencil" Nature: While branded as Bundy, these are often considered "stencil" pieces, meaning they were generic, high-quality blanks finished to specific, consistent specifications.
- These mouthpieces are generally regarded as excellent, affordable options for students or as "sleeper" vintage pieces that can be refaced for professional use.
