Rare example of a factory black custom ordered 1971 Fender Stratocaster.

One of the very first 3 bolt examples that otherwise retains most of the attributes of a 69-71 four bolt Strat - Thin skin factory black body paint finish and thin skin poly neck finish, grey bottom pickups, single string tree, chunky neck profile, steel trem block, light weight wood.

Black was still a custom colour finish in 1971 and makes these pretty hard to find in original condition.

A four bolt custom colour the same year would be 2-3 times the price of this one. This sounds the same and plays the same, nailing the Hendrix and Gilmour tones. The quality control issues at Fender came later in the 1970’s which makes these early iterations of the 3 bolt neck something of a bargain and a sleeper in the vintage market.
