For sale is a 2018 Heritage H-137 on the high side of very good. A very clean and well-cared for instrument with a few visible small dings, marks, and small scratches--and a good amount of finish swirling all over the guitar which is highly visible in direct light reflected a the proper angle, yet recedes and disappears at other angles.
This instrument plays wonderfully and has a lovely acoustic voice and resonance from it's one-piece mahogany body. For me, I enjoyed playing it without an amp because feeling the acoustic vibration of the slab, sustain, and natural overtones has brought me a hell of a lot of joy. Of course, plug it in and the joy converts from acoustic overtones to the rumble of a rock machine, yet still with an honest voice with clear, punchy mids delivered by the stock Lollar P90's, with articulation of chordal notes maintained, even as overdrive is added.
I'd describe this neck as a comfy 50's carve--a fuller C shape: definitely not in slim taper territory, but neither extremely chunky. At approximately 7lbs 12oz, this is a very comfortable and balanced instrument on the lighter side. I've seen the newer custom shop variants of these guitars selling for 3k new. This model has the dog ear style Lollar P90's, where the newer ones have regular recessed P90's. Admittedly, I have not played the newer versions of the H137 coming out of Heritage's custom shop, although I've played a number of their guitars over the years.
Yet, from where I stand, the guitar materials, playability, quality of construction are so high that I have a hard time imagining what could make the newer "custom shop" examples stand out from this guitar. That's a testament to Heritage and their build quality. You still get a gorgeous one piece body with attractive grain--and the tonewoods have a wonderful voice and are lightweight--all the attention to detail you could hope for. And to boot, it comes with the original Heritage case in good condition.
This Heritage H-137 represents a unique value in the current marketplace. New production examples are priced to be at 3k to reflect current costs to build one. Yet, for half the price these pre-owned near-same guitars were built by the same hands, in the same shop, using the same highest quality materials, a few years ago before inflation ran amuck during and since the pandemic. I believe this level of quality at this price point is a steal-of-a-deal compared to new production. This guitar represents a great opportunity to take advantage of price distortions in the used compared to new market.
Even though Heritage doesn't make "bad ones," I can confidently say this is a truly fine example of an LP Special /Junior style guitar. I anticipate the purchaser will be as pleased as I have been with the purchase of this guitar, and enjoy playing it as much as I have throughout the course of owning this remarkable instrument.
