Martin / 1992 HD-28 CTM LSH (Large Sound Hole)

The HD-28 embodies the essence of Martin guitars from the 1940s and earlier, with features such as herringbone purfling and a zigzag backstrip.

This particular guitar has undergone further customization, notably featuring a larger soundhole.

While typically around 101mm in diameter, this one measures 111mm.

It certainly has a noticeable presence when you look closely.

Furthermore, the fretboard is missing the inlays that should be there.

Some of you may be able to guess what the person who customized this guitar at Martin was thinking, just from its appearance.

That's right.

It's reminiscent of the 1935 D-28 "Antique" that was once owned by Clarence White, a leading bluegrass guitarist, and later passed down to Tony Rice.

(Although it actually has fretboard binding and an overhanging neck, there must have been some sentiment behind it.)

The neck profile is round and thick.

The moment you grip it, you'll feel a sense of solidity in its shape.

The sound it produces is incredibly full-bodied.

Even when playing single notes, you can enjoy a rich, resonant tone.

With chord strums, the core of each note harmonizes to create a "blinky" nuance, so those who like to strum aggressively will likely enjoy it.

"I wish I could play guitar like that." It feels like two great musicians are watching over you from the sidelines, increasing your motivation to practice.
