1964-65 ODE Boulder Colorado Grade 1 Model 33 Long Neck Open Back 5-String Banjo – Serial #1367 – Original Case

Vintage ODE 5-string open-back banjo from the original Boulder, Colorado era, serial #1367, dating approximately to 1964-1965 before the Baldwin acquisition period, in virtually unmolested condition.

Stamped internally:

“ODE Boulder, Colo.” “Grade 1” “Model 33”

This is a very original example of an early Boulder-era ODE with its original aluminum pot assembly, dowel stick construction, Grover tuners, and original ODE tailpiece. Lightweight, resonant, and extremely articulate in the way these early ODE banjos are known for.

Includes the original hard-shell case with vintage folk-era stickers and markings intact.

The instrument retains a very honest vintage appearance with natural wear, oxidation, finish checking, and patina throughout, consistent with age and use. Please examine all photos carefully.

The banjo appears largely original. One hook/hardware area appears to be missing as pictured. Neck heel appears structurally solid. Frets show honest vintage wear.

IMPORTANT:

The instrument is currently being offered exactly as found, without detailed cleaning, polishing, restoration, or professional setup. This is intentional. I am leaving the banjo in its untouched condition initially so that collectors and players who prefer original vintage instruments may evaluate and set it up according to their own preferences and standards. This is a great chance to get your dream instrument without someone messing with it.

If the instrument does not sell within approximately one week, I may remove the listing and have the banjo professionally cleaned and set up before relisting. Please don't hesitate to make an offer or send me a private communication about it. I want it to go to someone who cares about these great folk instruments. I am more of an electric guitar player, so I may let it go to the highest offer without getting involved with the restoration. Thanks.
