Vox AC15C1X w/ Alnico blue speaker (original owner)

A great combo in MINT condition! The AC15C1X is a solid platform, and the Alnico Blue is really where that amp finds its voice.

 AC15C1X is the "Custom" variant with the Celestion Alnico Blue (15W, 12"), which is the speaker Vox used in the original AC15s and AC30s from the late '50s and early '60s. It's a significant upgrade over the Greenback or G12M that ships in the standard AC15C1.

The Alnico Blue's character:

• Smooth, compressed breakup with a glassy, chiming top end — perfect for the EF86/Top Boost voicing
• Warm mids without being muddy; responds beautifully to pick attack dynamics
• The alnico magnet gives it a softer, more "giving" feel compared to ceramic speakers, less aggressive, more musical
• Breakups happens early and gradually, which pairs well with the AC15's own natural overdrive

The amp's sweet spots:

• Top Boost channel — where most people live; the Treble and Bass controls interact, so backing off treble and pushing bass can get you that warm, jangly chime
• Normal channel — darker and more compressed, excellent for clean rhythm work
• The Tone Cut knob — works as a low-pass filter on the power amp, not a standard tone control; rolling it back tames harshness and adds warmth
• Power stage runs EL84s, which pushes the natural compression and blooms the Blue for what it’s known for.
