This is a really fabulous little guitar! You can really hear the 62 years of music and love that this has produced. This is an Epiphone Cortez from 1964 in Cherry Sunburst made in Kalamazoo Michigan. These are perhaps the first flat tops produced with what is now referred to as 'forward shifted' x bracing. I have had this for a good little while, and got it for 'Nashville tuning' applications. It sings like a bird! You could easily put a set of medium light bronze on it - if you prefer standard tuning, but I highly recommend using it for the tuning it's in.
I have done my very best to show all of the little flaws, bumps, and bruises it's received along the way, but I can definitively say that nothing about this guitar is audibly negative (no noises, buzzes, or other maladies) To put it in print, there are two very stable hairline cracks in the spruce on top- the longest being about 2" in length (VERY difficult to photo, and did my best). These are not audible, and remain stable. There is a tiny hairline stable crack on the upper back edge(I have attempted to capture it in the pics, but it would seem too small to show up), and a 'blorp' of what appears to be hot hide glue on the back, and no damage of any kind under it. It never bothered me. The guitar is completely stock- with the exception of the bone bridge pins, and saddle which are a dramatic improvement over the original equipment. The synthetic bridge plate remains, and sounds great with the addition of the new saddle and pins. I can include the plastic bridge pins, but I can't imagine anyone wanting these.
The neck is narrow, and fabulous! The frets are in great shape, and the action is appropriate for both intonation and feel. The Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is in great shape, with only a small nail divot behind the second fret trebles. If you wanted to take it to the next step, I would consider a wood bridge plate, but I feel that it's fine as is.
I'm not excited about selling this, but other things demand attention. It will be shipped to you in a brand new Crossrock hardshell case, which fits it like a glove. It will also be packed with a Music Nomad humidifier. If I can supply any additional information, feel free to reach out!
PLEASE NOTE;
This guitar is being sold as is, and is extremely playable, and fun to play. Please consult my pics here for the best possible overview of condition, and look at my 5 star sales reviews!
Cheers!
