Excellent condition pedal with box, directions and sticker. Velcro on the bottom.
The 1981 Inventions Professional DRV Germanium Overdrive behaves much more like a distortion pedal than a traditional overdrive. While germanium transistors are usually linked to early fuzz designs, here they deliver a thick, harmonically rich voice that feels closer to a RAT-style distortion. The Professional Drive starts out pretty gnarly and builds into heavier, more compressed saturation as you turn it up. There is not much of a truly clean range on the drive control, but like many germanium-based circuits, it cleans up well as your roll off the guitar volume. The Cut control trims low frequencies as you turn it clockwise, brightening the sound and giving the distortion a sharper, more crystalline character.
This pedal should resonate with Eric Johnson fans, pop-punk players, and stoner rock guitarists, though it does not have the heavily scooped mids for metal. You can call the Professional Drive a lot of things, just not an overdrive.
