Realistic Concertmate MG-1 (Moog) — Previously Owned by Jay Watson of Tame Impala / Pond / GUM
A 1981 Realistic Concertmate MG-1 — the synth Moog built for Radio Shack. Model 42-4000, serial 17177. Real Moog guts: two oscillators, the classic Moog ladder filter, ring mod, noise, and the Polyphony section. Cult favorite for a reason.
This one was previously owned by Jay Watson — of Tame Impala, Pond, and GUM. He told me directly it was used to track Pond’s The Weather when he signed some of my records in NYC in Sept 2025, so it most likely turns up across the Pond records from around 2014–2019. Here’s a live clip of Pond with this synth on stage back in 2014:
Fully working and sounds great. Cosmetically it’s got honest wear from a real, gigged instrument of its age — photos show everything as it is. Powers on, every section responds, outputs and aux in all good. Own a piece of psychedelic rock history!
Offers welcome. Pickup in NYC or buyer pays shipping.
