Vintage Tremolo is an optical tremolo designed around the current-production XVive VTL5C1 vactrol. The response is not perfectly linear and has a slight but noticeable sluggishness to the slew rate, resulting in a smooth modulation sound that some describe as having a vintage character. Optical tremolo circuits were also used in a variety of classic tube amps like the Deluxe Reverb, which contributes to their association with “vintage” sounds.
