Gibson 1964 ES-330 TDC Serial # 175595 All Original!
The Cherry finish still holds incredible clarity and depth without the heavy clouding or severe fading commonly seen on road-worn models from this decade. The binding has aged to a beautiful, warm cream color, complementing the original reflector-top knobs and nickel hardware beautifully.
It's an absolute gem of Golden Era Kalamazoo craftsmanship.
Fully Hollow Thinline Design: Unlike its sibling, the ES-335, the ES-330 does not have a solid maple center block. It is completely hollow inside, braced with traditional spruce parallel tone bars. This makes the guitar incredibly lightweight (this one is 5.9lbs) and gives it a loud, acoustic-like acoustic resonance.
Body Woods: The top, back, and rims are constructed from laminated maple (typically 3-ply maple/poplar/maple). This lamination was used by Gibson to provide structural strength to a thin acoustic body and to help control feedback when plugged in.
The Finish: A classic Gibson Cherry nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The wood grain is beautifully visible through the translucent red stain.
Binding: Single-ply, clean cream/off-white binding accenting both the top and back edges of the body, as well as the F-holes.
Neck Joint (16th Fret): True to early '60s specifications, the neck joins the body at the 16th fret. This pushes the bridge further back on the lower bout compared to an ES-335, giving the guitar a shorter physical footprint, a unique string tension, and a very comfortable left-hand reach.
Neck Material: Solid one-piece mahogany with a traditional holly headstock veneer.
Profile: 1964 is famous for having Gibson's highly coveted "Medium C" profile. It moved away from the ultra-thin, flat "blade" necks of 1960–1961, offering a rounder, more hand-filling grip that isn't excessively chunky.
Fingerboard: A dark, premium Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard featuring a 12\text{-inch} radius.
Inlays: Pearloid small block inlays, which replaced the early-era dot markers in mid-1962.
Dual "Dogear" P-90 Pickups: It features two single-coil P-90 pickups housed in nickel-plated covers. Known for their high output, fat mid-range, and biting clarity, these pickups offer a distinctly different, rawer sonic punch than humbuckers.
A nickel-plated ABR-1 Tune-o-matic bridge. By late 1964, Gibson was transitioning from metal saddles to nylon saddles; a close look at this one would tell you if it's an early-year metal or late-year nylon variant.
Tailpiece: A chrome or nickel-plated Trapeze tailpiece with a raised diamond pattern on the crossbar, anchoring the strings cleanly at the bottom rim.
Pickguard: A multi-ply (black/white/black/white) wide-bevel celluloid pickguard held up by a chrome mounting bracket.
Tuners: Original Kluson Deluxe single-line, single-ring tuners with oval plastic buttons (often called "cream buttons").
Headstock Logo: The classic mother-of-pearl "Gibson" logo inlay, clean of any extra headstock decorations like crowns or split-diamonds, keeping it elegant.
The Orange Oval Label: Located inside the bass-side F-hole. It features the handwritten model code and serial number, alongside the "Union Made" stamp on the left edge, a historical marker that places its final assembly right at the transition point of late 1964.
Every one of these features lines up to make this a stellar, unmolested representation of mid-60s Kalamazoo guitar building at its peak. It's built for incredible touch-sensitivity and that signature woody, bluesy bite.
