Epic Axes is a musician-driven showroom in Los Angeles. Each guitar is personally selected, inspected, and tested to ensure top performance - only instruments we would play ourselves become part of our collection.
A very cool and quite rare late-‘80s Greco SS600P Kanako Nakayama Signature Model in Black finish, built in Japan around 1989 (serial 9 6098). These models were produced as part of Greco’s collaboration with Kanako Nakayama of Princess Princess and have become increasingly hard to find, especially in clean and original condition.
This guitar has that classic Japanese SG-style feel - lightweight, resonant, aggressive, and extremely fun to play. The all-black look paired with the slim double-cut body gives it a very unmistakable vintage Japanese rock aesthetic.
Condition-wise, the instrument is in overall very good vintage condition for its age, with only minor natural cosmetic signs of use throughout the body and hardware consistent with a well-kept instrument from the late ‘80s. Small scratches, light dings, and honest playwear are present here and there (please check all photos).
One of the strongest points of this guitar is the sound. The original pickups and electronics are all intact and sound fantastic - warm, punchy, articulate, and very alive with that raw vintage Japanese character Greco guitars from this era are known for. It handles driven tones exceptionally well while still cleaning up nicely for more dynamic playing.
The neck feels comfortable and fast, and the guitar plays great overall. Frets are in very good condition with plenty of life left - no deep grooves, no dead spots, and no buzzing. Action is comfortable and the instrument is fully functional exactly as it should be.
A super vibey and increasingly collectible vintage Japanese SG-style guitar with original electronics, killer tone, and tons of personality.
No case included.
The following work has been done: full fretboard conditioning with lemon oil, fret polish, pickup height adjustment for balance and clarity, and a fresh set of D’Addario 10-46s installed. String height at the 12th fret on the low E is right at 2.2 mm - set for comfortable playability.
