Up for sale, a 1994 Gibson Historic Les Paul Custom 1954 Reissue LPB4 in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. A rare, early Custom Shop offering (the Custom Shop was officially founded in ‘93), this 1954 spec LPB4 has only been produced sporadically and in small production runs over the past few decades. This Les Paul boasts mahogany construction throughout, including the vintage-spec carved mahogany top, with a substantial “baseball bat”-worthly neck profile carve.
At 10lbs 8ooz, this Les Paul is well balanced on a strap and acoustically resonant, offering a powerful and authoritative tone unplugged that translates well through the "Staple" Alnico V neck pickup and P-90 bridge pickup. The P-90 in the bridge position delivers all the aggression, focused bark, and grit of this iconic design, equally well-suited for cleans or high gain crunch without losing articulation. The Staple at the neck features Alnico V magnet construction; originally introduced to ensure the neck pickup response was slightly brighter, this pickup has a unique punch and glassy snap all its own, particularly potent in the upper-midrange and pairing very well with the fullness of the all-mahogany construction. This Custom Shop Historic 1954 Les Paul Custom benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
