While not well known in the west, the Bass Maniac series by Tune is one of the most influential bass designs ever produced. Created in 1983, the Bass Maniac was the second best selling bass in Japan in the mid 80s, and surpassed only by the Fender Jazz Bass. The model was so popular in fact, that the original Ibanez SDGR and Yamaha RBX / Motion Bass model lines were created as competitors to them. If you've ever seen a compact Japanese bass, it was likely born as a copy of the Bass Maniac.

Here we have a 1988 TB-02PJ with a cream white finish, and a lovely dark rosewood fretboard. I had this bass imported from Japan with the intention to sell it, but I ended up falling in love with it and kept it for myself for a long while.

These basses are one of the most comfortable I've ever played, and are extremely light, with this one weighing 7.4 pounds. The balance is perfect and the ergonomics are great. Meanwhile, the tone of the bass is smooth, clean, surprisingly deep, and extremely snappy due to the closely positioned PJ pickups and active electronics.

The overall condition of it is very good for its age. It shows a few signs of wear, with a couple of bumps and scratches, but nothing too noticeable unless you look closely.

The playability is overall very good with a straight neck and fully functional hardware, including the truss rod which has room in both directions but is extremely stiff, likely due to age. The action is relatively low at around 2.5-2.0mm, but there is some slight buzzing on the 7th fret of the A and D string which may need adjustments if it bothers you.

If you're wondering, the strings aren't installed backwards, the tuning pegs on these are reversed, which allows the slim headstock design :)
