We’ve just received a used Fender Post-Vintage Precision Bass from the 1970s!

Based on the serial number and pot date, we’ve determined it was made in 1978.

*The weight listed is without the bridge cover, pickup fence, or thumb rest.

Late 70s Precision Basses have been gaining popularity in recent years. Compared to 60s models, their hard, punchy sound pairs exceptionally well with slap playing, giving them a truly unique presence.

Considering its age, this particular instrument is in excellent condition, with many modifications made to areas that do not affect the tone.

The pots are likely original for the era, but the wiring has been altered, and traces of soldering are visible.

The pickups are likely original, but as there are no markings or stamps on the back, we cannot confirm this with certainty.

The pickguard is also in good condition for its age, but there is no sticker with the serial number on the back, so it is unclear whether it has been replaced.

The greatest appeal of this particular guitar is its extremely light weight of 3.99 kg, which is highly unusual for a late-70s model.

Based on the wood grain and weight inside the neck pocket, it appears to have an alder body rather than the heavy-duty ash that was mainstream at the time.

Even when compared to current alder-maple models, the tenacity in the low end, the exquisite sense of compression, and the powerful punch that delivers a distinct rock feel even when plugged directly into an amp are the true joys unique to this era.

The tone control works well; the muffled, warm tone when rolled all the way down evokes an old-school feel, while the gritty, punchy Precision sound at full volume is truly one-of-a-kind.

The electronics have been modified: the wiring has been replaced, and noise reduction measures have been implemented by applying conductive paint inside the routing.

While signs of work, such as solder marks, are visible, these modifications are designed with the practical needs of the player in mind.

The neck shows the slight warping common to instruments of this era, but the sound through an amp is powerful, allowing you to fully experience the “forceful projection” characteristic of Pre-Basses from that era.

The muffled sound on the higher frets is barely noticeable when amplified, and the sustain is no shorter than on the lower frets.

Lightweight and practical, with a clean appearance that’s just waiting to be played into—this is a highly recommended find!

If you’re looking for a lightweight model with that late-70s sound, please give this one a try!

[Condition]

・The neck has a high-fret bend, and there is some muffling on the 12th fret and beyond even with a string height of about 2.5mm.

・The truss rod has room to adjust in both directions and functions properly.

・The parts are in good condition considering the age of the instrument, though there is some discoloration.

・The electronics are in good working order; there is no crackling, unnatural noise, or poor contact.

・The included hard case is not original.

Scratches and marks: A scratch about the size of a fingertip on the upper right of the bridge, a scratch on the 4th string side of the 7th fret, a slightly bent 1st string tuner, and small dents on the back and sides of the body

Modifications: Knobs, pickup covers, wiring, screws, nut, and routing have been treated with conductive paint.

Accessories: Hard case, bridge cover, pickup fence, thumb rest, original knobs
