Up for sale, a 1990 Greco EGC-480 "Black Beauty" LP Custom electric guitar in good condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan's famed Fujigen factory, this LP features a pair of "Screamin" PAF pickups and a basswood body. With the same humbuckers used in other higher-tier Greco models, the
"Screamin" pickups measure in the mid 7k ohm range with a complex and detailed sound. The bridge position humbucker has a touch of growl, sweet, subtle mids, and focused bass response, while neck pickup delivers more girth and fullness while still being clear and present.
Weighing 8lbs 4oz, this moderate weight Greco balances well on a strap and has a solid, non-weight relieved body. We've had this guitar professionally setup with low action, solid intonation, and 10-46 strings. The neck has a very full and chunky C shaped profile consistent with Gibson's '50s shapes, measuring .858" deep at the first fret and filling out to 1.032" at the 12th fret. The neck features a bound rosewood fretboard, pearl block inlay, and original medium jumbo fretwire. These frets are very similar to what Gibson used in the late '60s, with identical width and a bit more height and crown.
The frets show only a touch of wear on the crowns beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3, with virtually no wear further up the fretboard. The guitar plays cleanly in all positions with no buzzing or dead spots, and the truss rod is responsive and ideally adjusted. The nut is original, measuring 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the guitar features multi-ply binding, Gotoh gold tuning machines, and clean pearl inlays that closely mimic Gibson's split diamond look. The neck is the bolt-on variety seen on some Grecos, with a single bolt visible at the neck joint, and additional fasteners hidden in the neck pickup cavity.
All of the electronics work as they should, with original pots and tone caps. The gold hardware is decent condition with some light patina and includes the original Tune-o-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece.
The plastic parts include a quartet of witch cap knobs, a multi-ply black pickguard, and black pickup rings and switch surround. Cosmetic wear is limited to scuffing in the pick path and a few scattered small nicks, mostly relegated to the back and the lower bout of the top behind the bridge. The neck profile is flawless.
