This is a 35' mini-sized, 22.75” scale length replica of Kurt Cobain’s legendary “Vandalism” Stratocaster. It's just a little smaller and right handed rather than left. The guitar began as a Squier Mini Stratocaster that has some interesting history behind it. The very first Squier mini was built in November of 1998. The serial number of this guitar is SI81200048 indicating it was built in Dec of 1998 and was the 48th Squier Mini guitar ever manufactured. Currently it's estimated more than a half a million have been produced so it's a rather rare item. Unfortunately that does not make it super valuable, I checked, haha. Maybe it just needs another 30 years. Regardless, it does give it a bit of a cool factor and makes it a great conversation piece. See the last two photos.

  • The guitar weighs in at 6.9lbs and is perfectly balanced. It’s heavier than you would expect. The body is Fender's standard full thickness 1.75' (44mm). It's not one of the skinny bodies found on most import guitars. The guitar feels like a full sized guitar despite it's shorter length. It doesn't feel or play like a toy. It’s the perfect size to use while noodling on the couch and is easy to carry it with you while traveling. The body has its original black paint job and finish although it has been artificially relic'd to replicate the original vandalism guitar. It's meant to look like the guitar did prior to having all the duct tape applied to it and the neck swapped. It's topped with a proportionately sized vandalism bumper sticker that gave the original guitar it's name.
  • It has a maple neck with an oil finish giving it a smooth satin feel. It has a genuine rosewood fretboard. This was built prior to Squier switching to Indian Laurel. The neck has a C-shape profile, a 10" radius and 20 medium-jumbo frets. The frets are leveled, polished and smoothly rolled over at the ends. The serial number on the back of the headstock has been preserved but the front has been replaced with an era correct, Fender Japan decal. It matches the decal that was on Kurt's original guitar.
  • The bridge pickup is an alnico 5, four wire, neck humbucker. It was chosen as it's very close in specs, output and tone to the Seymour Duncan SH1N, also a neck humbucker. That's what is known to have been used in the original guitar. (7.1K). The middle and neck are each the stock pickups that came with the guitar. They would be similar to the stock pickups Kurt used on his original although he wasn't known to use either of them much, if at all, at least on this particular guitar. That might be why he never saw a need to replace them.
  • Most all of the original electronics have been upgraded. The volume is controlled by a 250K full sized pot wired with a treble bleed circuit to prevent tone changes when rolling up or down on the volume. The single tone acts as a master tone and is controlled by a full sized 250K push pull pot wired to a large orange drop capacitor. Pulling up on it activates coil splitting on the bridge humbucker giving it more of a classic single coil tone. The output is equipped with a high quality Switchcraft output jack.
  • The guitar has its original stock hardtail bridge. Also equipped are Schaller style locking tuners with a 1:15 gear ratio. The locking tuners improve tuning stability and make string changes much quicker and easier. A single roller type stringtree is installed as well as two mushroom head strap buttons. The guitar is strung with brand new 11-52 strings. Heavier strings are typically recommended for these shorter scale guitars. They make it feel and play more like a full sized instrument. They also greatly improve the tuning stability. It's excellent on this particular guitar considering it's a short scale.
  • I'll also include an extra bumper sticker with the shipment just in case you ever need to replace it.
  • It does not come with a case but will be securely packaged and shipped in a heavy duty shipping box.
