This new design has some improvements over the original such as lower noise on channel 1 (caused by power transformer permeation 60 cycle) and better stereo balancing. 

We have taken a few weeks of tweaking and finally come up with what we think will really impress those who love the sound of a Solid State Tube hybrid optocell comp. New lower ratios add to some of the wonderful flexibility of the compressor. Attack and release remain the same with the design. 

Original VLA Thoughts;

With our modifications, these sound great on Bass, vocals, room mics and especially mastering Buss for some genres that call for warmth and glue.

About the Modifications

We perform and number of modifications on these units and gut the inside of these units so it is a lot of work, but the results are well worth it.

On these units we have modified the input, output and buffer stages with High performance Burr Brown opamps for optimum fidelity, signal to noise, headroom and bandwidth.

Coupling and de-coupling is also performed throughout the circuit using premium Panasonic parts for better frequency response, lower noise, longer life and more musicality. Capacitor types and values are adjusted in the signal path as well as in the power supply for great mojo, clarity and vibe. 

The Vactrol is changed for faster attack and release control and the Tube plate voltage is increased to an acceptable level for the circuit.

A Low noise Mullard tube is installed for vibe, warmth and audio quality. 

These units have been professionally modified by our technicians and given the seal of approval to go to work at you home or in your studio.

These are beautiful sounding units with a lot of dynamic range and big bottom end.

The service increases the headroom of the unit, widens the frequency response, lowers the noise and increases the clarity, depth of field and musicality.

The Modification also increases the speed of the attack and release times making these cool compressors useable on a broader range of applications. What we end up with is a Boutique sounding Tube Opto compressor that excels!
