TAB V76/80 - Two-Channel Rack!

You are looking at a two-channel rack of vintage TAB V76/80 microphone preamps! These are known as “holy grail“ preamps and this is about the nicest rack you will ever lay eyes on. I had it custom fabricated in the past few years by Todd Wilson of Portland Pro Audio and the workmanship is second-to-none. He also refurbished the preamps and made sure everything was working to spec or better. He’s one of the best techs I know. These units are all original in terms of tubes/parts, except that the electrolytic caps have been (of course) replaced.

These preamps were previously owned by Millenia Media, (the hi-fi preamp manufacturer). I purchased them and had them refurbished and professionally racked.

The sound, as you would expect, is fantastic. It’s what I would describe as “neutral tube excellence” and it’s known for being mid-forward rather than focusing on extreme high-frequency extension, like a Vacuvox V41, for example. I would describe it, sonically, as a tube version of the Neve 1073. It‘s known for pairing particularly well with Neumann tube mics, such as the U47/67. If you're looking for an extremely hi-fidelity mid-focused vocal sound, this is the ticket.

Personally, I use the built-in HPF when recording vocals and set it at 80 Hz. (It additionally offers settings of 300 Hz and 380 Hz.) There is an optional LPF setting of 3 kHz, as well. Obviously, you can bypass any of these filters by using the “Gerade” setting.

The rack offers polarity/phase reversal as well as phantom power (48V).
