The DW Collector’s Series is DW’s flagship line. It represents fully customizable drum kits, where every detail – from wood type to hardware finish – is built exactly to the player’s specifications.

Key Features & Technologies

Specialized Shell Configuration (SSC):
DW uses different ply orientations (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) to lower the fundamental pitch of the shells and maximize resonance. The available configurations are VLT (Vertical Low Timbre), X-Shell, VLX, and HVX.

Timbre Matching:
Each shell is individually measured, tested, and tuned to its exact fundamental pitch. Kits are assembled so that all drums follow a harmonically descending pitch structure.

True-Pitch® Tuning:
The tension rods feature a finer thread, allowing for more precise and stable tuning compared to standard hardware.

Hardware Innovations:
Standard features include STM™ suspension tom mounts for maximum resonance, True-Hoops™, and the MAG™ snare throw-off system.

The Collector’s Series includes the following shell materials and specialty series:

Solid Woods:

• Maple/Mahogany (warm and resonant tuning)
• Cherry/Mahogany (warm tone with clear projection)

• Jazz Series: Gumwood core designed for a warm, rounded jazz tone
• Classics: 3-ply poplar/mahogany shells with reinforcement rings, based on 1930s–1950s vintage design
• Santa Monica: Thicker all-maple shells based on original 1980s DW designs
• SonicPly™: Hybrid maple and aluminum construction for a drier, more focused sound

Customization

Finishes:
The Collector’s Series is available in FinishPly™ wraps, lacquer finishes (Lacquer Custom/Specialty), and premium exotic veneers such as Bird’s Eye Maple and Mapa Burl.

Hardware Finishes:
Available in chrome, gold, satin chrome, nickel, and black nickel.
