Guild JF30 Black, USA-made, 2002-2004 (Corona-era) w/K&K. Great playing, sounding jumbo guitar!
See Video below of this exact guitar recorded at time of posting. And I just re-took pictures today due to some of them just had too many reflections (glossy black guitars are just SO hard to photograph!) and Reverb said some were too small.
This guitar is one of the batch of instruments that Fender/Guild liquidated to MIRC as they moved Guild production from Corona, CA to Tacoma, WA. MIRC then refurbished as necessary, had a label placed over the original serial #, and offered to second-line retailers at huge discounts, without warranty, giving players a chance to get a great instrument at a big discount.
I bought it used, here on Reverb, a few years ago. Prior to my ownership, there was a small crack repaired on the lower bout of the top (maybe by MIRC), and a K&K Pure Mini pickup and a sound-hole mounted volume control installed.
There’s various nicks, scuffs and scratches on the body, a few grooves and scratches in the rosewood fingerboard… all signs of a well-played instrument. And it IS a player! The guitar sounds and plays great, acoustically and plugged in, and that's what’s most important. Well, that, plus the fact that it's black! And it looks great onstage! Guild’s motto has always been “Made to be Played “.
AND, it has the wider, non-'snakehead' headstock (very rare for a JF30), beautiful in-laid Chesterfield and logo (not silk screened) and gold-plated Grover tuners.
The frets look great (I had them professionally dressed recently), the neck is arrow-straight, a straight-edge goes all the way down the fretboard and sits right at the top of the bridge. There's LOTS of saddle left, action at 12th fret is about 5/64ths low E, 4/64ths high E, has a fully functioning truss-rod, and plays great all the way up and down the neck (see video). Strings are Martin 12s, light gauge.
With solid spruce top, maple back and sides...and that Guild arched-back, it has projection and a full, yet bright, articulate sound.
The K&K Mini pickup is actually 3 round transducers that are glued in place under the bridge plate (see pic) and replicate exactly the sound this guitar makes. No coloration. And it's passive, so no onboard preamp or battery. And it has the passive volume control in the sound hole.
A great playing/sounding guitar, stage-ready! Very sturdy, Guilds of this era were built like a tank!
It comes with an excellent Road Runner molded case that I bought for it a few years ago from GC.
A great guitar that has served me well recording and on stage. Now it's your turn. See video.
