Here we have a very nice 1949 Epiphone FT-49 acoustic guitar. This mostly original 77 year old instrument came in from one of Detroit's own bluesman 'Robert Jones'. Robert and I go back 4 plus decades, even before we even opened our shop 40 years ago. Every now and then he weeds and feeds his vast collection of performing instruments. That is where I come in to help him with the task.
So this New York made Epiphone FT-49 is a fine example of a solid playing and superb sounding larger acoustic. Fully original with the exception of the hole in the bottom of the body to plug a guitar cord in to take the sound to the next level through an amplifier. The Fishman pickup is removable with no harm to the body or finish.
Cosmetically, yes it has bumps, nicks, and light honest playing wear and bruises like me being 77 years old like the guitar. But I am still all there as is the guitar. The frets are in great condition with no real pitting and very light wear. There is a chip of vaneer missing on the headstock, not serious in any way. I just spoke to Robert to find out that 20 some years ago when he purchased it from Elderly Instruments here in Michigan, it had just received a neck reset by them. The only other repair was the bridge has been professionally taken off and reglued.
The guitar played and sounded just fantastic when it came in but I felt the need to clean the frets, a few drops of oil on the amazing original, flawless Grover tuners, seasoned the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, and install a fresh set of DA'ddario .12-.53 Phosphor bronze strings. Now the guitar sounds and plays even better with amazing string heighth playability. TONE & VIBE! Lot's of vibe.
Guitar comes with an excellent condition fits it
like a glove deluxe-plush TKL 6 latch hardshell case with key.

NOTE: Too cool. We just shipped very recently in the last few months a 1967 MapleGlo Rickenbacker 6-12 Converter 'comb' guitar to Billy Corigan of Smashing Pumpkins! We also then shipped a vintage 50 watt Marshall head to L.A. studio-touring guitarist extraodinaire, Michael Landau, and 2 vintage guitars to Jack White's organization down in Nashville just a few days before his 50th. birthday! mmm? Add 'The Kentucky Head Hunters' to the list, just sold Greg a cool little 50's Valco tube combo amp!
Gordy's Music has become a Detroit institution! Our shop was used as a filming location for a few films like "Miracle in Motor City" a Christmas movie on Lifetime (featuring Smoky Robinson). We've supplied gear for movies including "Bill & Ted Face The Music" with Keanu Reeves. We've got decades of celebrity customers, including recent visits from Beck, Eric Johnson, and we recently sold Billy Joel's bassist a cool Gibson SG he is in love with. One day a while back Andre 3000 and his group stopped in to browse as they were playing Masonic Temple that night and right after that we sold an old oil can Morley Wah Vibrato pedal to Credence Clearwater Revival's thee John Fogerty!
We are having and have had a lot of fun here at Gordy's Music! I was just remembering about 35 years ago a tour bus pulled up to our little shop, and who rolls right in and hangs out for an hour? Lenny Kravitz and his entire group, right about the same time I was selling many guitars to and chauffeuring around Dee Dee Ramone who had an apartment a block down from my house.
