That distinct Danelectro look

Donning the Shorthorn body style that debuted back in ’59, the Golden ’50s’ double-cut silhouette and hardboard-capped semi-hollow spruce body exude classic charm around every curve. The headstock’s standout full-bell shape harkens back to those atop the company’s archetypal solidbody electrics from the first half of the decade. Bridging these two periods of design are the infusion of timeless Danelectro trademarks and era-appropriate embellishments from top to bottom, including an aluminum nut, a rosewood-saddled bridge, tolexed sides, and chrome sealed-back tuners with flat skate key pegs.

Hot ’50s lipstick pickups

Danelectro’s lipstick single-coil hit the scene in the mid-’50s and immediately offered players a tight, chimey tone and a unique look. Ever since, the lipstick single-coil has become an icon and remained a staple of the Danelectro sound. The pair found aboard the Golden ’50s unveil this design’s unmistakable elements of sight and sound, but with a bit more heat that players here at Sweetwater are excited to hear. Tuned 20% hotter at the neck position and 30% hotter at the bridge, these pickups pack a mightier punch that opens the door to a multitude of musical directions, from crisp and clear indie and pop to the grizzle of the blues, rock ’n’ roll, and beyond. Master Tone and Volume controls, along with a 3-way pickup selector, make finding your sound a cinch!

A comfortable fit for all

While its style and sound are undoubtedly superb, one of the most inviting elements of the Golden ’50s is its effortless handling for all player types. Its maple neck is shaped to a universally comfortable C profile, resting naturally in the hand and providing players with efficient navigation from note to note. To complement, a bridge-matching rosewood fingerboard sports 21 frets and a 14-inch radius for exceptionally smooth command, detailed with classic dot inlays. Lastly, its middle-ground 25-inch scale length solidifies the Golden ’50s with a wonderfully manageable wield for players of all sizes and experience levels.

Danelectro: an iconic American brand

Founded in 1947, Danelectro produced guitar amps throughout the 1940s before expanding into guitars in the ’50s. With their beloved quirky hollowbody designs, hardboard/plywood construction, and lipstick pickups, the iconic Danelectro instruments are instantly recognizable. Among other innovations, Danelectro introduced the baritone guitar in 1956 and the electric sitar in 1967. From guitar gods Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck to the Who bassist John Entwistle (check out the bass solo on “My Generation”), country superstar Glen Campbell, Tom Petty lead guitarist Mike Campbell, and the ever-eclectic Wilco guitarist and solo artist Nels Cline, Danos have become staples in the guitar and bass arsenals of top artists in all genres. Now, Danelectro is back and better than ever. Sweetwater is proud to offer you this formidable lineup of iconic vintage-inspired instruments.
