This SELMER Mark VI low-A baritone saxophone, manufactured in 1967–68 in Mantes-la-Ville near Paris, was exported to the United States at the time, where it was engraved, lacquered, and assembled by SELMER USA.
It has likely led a very eventful life since then, as evidenced by the clear signs of wear still visible today. Although most of the dents were removed in the past, traces of them are still visible. At some point, this Mark VI was refinished, so the engraving is no longer as clearly visible.
Why mention the negative aspects first?
Because the positives outweigh them!
The baritone plays great. The mechanism works perfectly, and it has a beautiful “mellow dark sound”!
It’s definitely not a collector’s saxophone, but if you’re looking for a SELMER Mark VI low-A baritone for everyday use that’s also affordable, this instrument is a great choice!
+ Beautiful dark and warm tone
+ Easy response across all registers
+ Mechanism works great
+ Affordable price
- Cosmetic flaws such as dents and repainting
