1980s/90s Brady 12” x 6” Jarrah block snare drum
I bought this when was I living in Sydney in 1991, touring and recording Priest = Aura while I was in The Church. I played an entire Brady kit at the time, which I loved, and I would have brought it all back to the States if the rental company would have sold it to me. I had to settle for this little monster. It subsequently made its way on to some Patti Smith albums.
Needless to say, it’s loud and Aussie proud, loves to be tuned high without losing any heft- nothing else sounds like a Brady. Fantastic power and abundant overtones, but it’s also sensitive and can be played softly. But why? 😆
I’m not an expert on identifying Bradys (and I can’t remember if there’s an interior label- oops, I’ll have to check again), but I would guess it was from the late 80s. It’s in very good condition. I added the wood hoops for side stick purposes, and they also make for great rim shots. It also comes with the original hoops. The tough reinforced fibre case is included. It still has the original Brady snare head.
