Bay Area Vintage Guitars is proud to offer this exceptional 1964 Fender Deluxe, Pre-CBS AB763 circuit amp— a rare and highly collectible blackface example including original Oxford speaker and original brown footswitch.

These Deluxes were produced in significantly smaller numbers than their Deluxe Reverb counterparts, making clean, original examples like this increasingly difficult to find.

This one was made in March 1964, very early in the AB763-era manufacturing, widely regarded as the peak of Fender’s build quality, component selection, and tonal refinement.

The amp delivers approximately 20–22 watts via 6V6 power tubes and a GZ34 rectifier, producing exceptionally articulate cleans and strong note separation. The bias-vary tremolo (vibrato) circuit is deep, smooth, and musical—one of the best that Fender ever produced.

Tone & Significance

The AB763 Deluxe is one of the most underrated and pure-sounding Fender circuits of the 1960s.

These amps offer:

  • More direct, immediate attack
  • Increased clarity and note definition
  • Earlier, smoother breakup at lower volumes
  • A slightly more “tweed-like” response within a blackface architecture

Players who know these amps often prefer them for recording and for playing in smaller rooms because they sit in the mix exceptionally well.

From a collector standpoint, 1964 examples represent peak Fender craftsmanship—pre-CBS build quality, handwired construction, and premium components such as the blue molded caps and Schumacher transformers.

Condition - Near collector-grade

  • The cabinet is extremely clean with minimal wear
  • Original grille cloth and tolex present beautifully
  • The faceplate and control panel are clean and well-preserved
  • Chassis is clean with a clear date stamp
  • Internal components show remarkable originality and no visible circuit modifications
  • The original Oxford speaker is intact and correctly dated

This is a highly original and well-preserved example—well above average for what typically surfaces on the market.
